Monsoon Season Dos And Don’ts For Hair

Monsoon has been a favourite of many a poets and writers. It brings out the romantic emotions. The surroundings become greener, the temperatures dip and generally, there is life and love blossoming everywhere.  The weather is so much more welcoming and finally kind enough to step out.

The hair which had been scrunched up into a bun or tight pony during the sweaty summer wants to come down and flow freely. But if you want your hair to look as good as it did when you stepped out of the house, you need to be cognizant of a few things. Remember, while the weather is kind, the pollution and humidity are the bad boys. They slowly ruin both your makeup and hairdo, leaving you frustrated.  The high humidity can make your scalp and subsequently your hair look oily, and the bounce vanishes as the day turns into night. The carbon dust and pollution all around are the major external factors which make our hair frizzy and the scalp irritable.

Here are some of the simple measures to follow during the monsoon season. Wherever you go these will keep your hair look shiny and healthy.

#1 Do Not Step Out Without Drying Your Hair

Often, when we are in a hurry, we step out without drying out wet hair. However, it’s not the best habit to have. Not just in the monsoons, wet hair always attracts lots of dust and pollution. However, in the monsoons, the acidity in the rain is often the additional whammy.  It makes the hair heavy and so affecting the hairstyle.  Also, longer bouts of wetness lead to chances of catching a cold or a scalp infection. If you do happen to roam around in wet hair, make sure you are washing your hair again at the end of the day. If you want to keep your hair protected, it is suggested that you avoid getting wet in the rain, how much ever tempting it might be to soak in those pleasant first showers.

#2 Timely Wash And Conditioning

A good hairstyle is a combined result of a good stylist and also proper hair care – which includes washing, moisturizing/staying hydrated and conditioning. While most are the usual activities, pay particular attention to how most of the stylists will condition your hair. Once you have washed your hair and squeezed out the excess water, use only a little conditioner. Apply it to the ends and lengths of the hair. Do not apply on the scalp or on the roots. This does more harm than good.  Leave the conditioner on for a couple of minutes and then rinse it off. Especially during the monsoons, you will notice, a hair that has been conditioned well will remain tangle-free, has less frizz and retains the bounce.

#3 Hydrate Well

While you may think, it is the monsoon and there is enough humidity to keep your hair hydrated, it does not work that way. Hydration has to happen inside out and therefore you need to be diet conscious. Drink plenty of water, eat a lot of veggies and fruits.

#4 Nourish the Roots

Natural oils are best to pamper the roots of your hair and keep the hair naturally shiny. It’s a habit we often neglect in the monsoon season as the scalp does not feel dry and the hair feels heavy once you’ve oiled. But regardless of the season, the hair strands and roots need their dose of oil nourishment. So, once a week it is a must to apply oil to your hair.

#5 Apply Hair Packs Regularly

Monsoon hair woes can be brought to rest by applying hair packs at least once a week. Homemade hair packs like Yogurt pack, Henna pack, Almond and Banana pack, Hibiscus pack or Coconut oil and Honey pack are good to keep your hair shiny and lustrous.
